The Amazon description could be better. This is a 350 GPH magnetically driven centrifugal unit. All electrical components are completely sealed in epoxy, no seals, no oil. The only moving part is a ceramic impeller which can be removed for maintenance/repair/replacement. The factory claims this unit uses half the usual amount of electricity, I have no idea if that is true. Amps are .7.
Can't yet comment on performance. Will in a few months. Can clarify one thing. The one I received from Amazon has the cage, not the sponge filter. See other reviews. Can't say if this is a fluke. Factory tells me they have no way of telling which pre-fiter is included (old = sponge, new = cage) without looking in the box. Hard for Amazon customers to do that. I took a chance, and as noted, got the cage. Maybe all of Amazon's are the new ones or maybe mine got pulled out of order.

The newer unit comes with a basket filter that does not get "clogged".
